MALAY POLITICS POST 15TH GENERAL ELECTIONS

The recent removal several UMNO top leaders notably Khairy Jamaluddin, Noh Omar and the suspension of Hishamuddin Hussein may not bode well for the image United Malay National Organization’s (UMNO) but to some factions within the party, it was the necessary move to ensure party stability and secure its position in the current unity government.

Government Aid & Initiatives for ‘Pandemic Graduates’: Are they enough?

The number of unemployed graduates in Malaysia has risen 22.5% from 165,200 in 2019 to 202,400 in 2020. A big headache is that these graduates are carrying the burden of education loan repayment on top of other consumer debts for credit card, phone, house and car when entering the job market. Problems in study loan repayments had occurred even before the COVID-19 pandemic, and had since been exacerbated by the pandemic. There are various good efforts by the Perikatan Nasional (PN)-led government in addressing the challenges of new graduates. INSAP suggests four initiatives to help new graduates: 1. Online Upskilling Courses; 2. Job-Guarantee Scheme; 3. Entrepreneurial Development; 4. Join NGOs as volunteers to gain work experience.

INSAP proposes ‘Marshall Plan’ approach towards National pandemic recovery

Strengthen Resilience for Our Recovery

Economic recovery is highly uneven with the burden of adjustment disproportionally falling on service sector, self-employed workers, aged 25-34. Cumulative jobs destructed far exceeds jobs created in service sector, although manufacturing sector has already entered recovery phase with positive net jobs created. Existing schemes like PenjanaKerjaya and Program Subsidi Upah won’t be effective, as mobility remains restricted and non-eligibility denies assistance. i-citra and loan moratorium programmes, while easing liquidity constraint, weakens the poor’s capacity to recover. What they need is temporary but recurring income support.

Apa Sebenarnya Yang Terbaik Untuk Program Imunisasi Covid-19 Kebangsaan (PICK)?
